The March 2016 edition of the VE Bulletin, written by OAG, analyses the trend for the development of non-stop air services between Asian megacities.
The top 10 Asian megacities, as defined by the UN, are suffering from lack of connectivity due to a range of issues including trade, the distinction of airline alliance positions in different regions as well as existing bilateral service agreements between countries. There is no doubting the tremendous potential for expanding non-stop services between these Asian megacities. Indeed, cities in India occupy 10 of the 18 unserved non-stop air routes among Asian top ten megacities.
Increased levels of cooperation on non-stop air services between India and China are predicted and this will tighten connectivity between two of the world’s largest markets whilst the process of identifying other Asian megacities with the potential to become aviation hubs continues apace.
