BUFFET for Youth

“BUFFET for Youth” is a challenge targeted at the next generation of tourism leaders that builds on PATA’s food waste campaign, the BUFFET Initiative.

The competition is open to PATA Youth, Student Chapter members and students enrolled in an educational institution that is a PATA Member.

Every year around the globe, 1.3 billion tonnes of food is lost or wasted. That is one-third of all food produced for human consumption. There is a huge opportunity for the tourism and hospitality industry in the Asia Pacific region to take a bit out of this problem.

BUFFET for Youth aims to empower the next generation of leaders in tourism and hospitality by giving them the resources, confidence, and experience in the subject of food waste reduction and prevention, while instilling the value of food and providing the appropriate tools that can help make an immediate and tangible impact in the tourism industry and Asia Pacific region.

As part of the challenge, participants will be asked to develop and eventually implement food waste reduction solutions on their campuses.

The winning team will be invited to attend the PATA Travel Mart or PATA Annual Summit and present their case study at the PATA Youth Symposium. The winning case study will also be showcased on the PATA website and garner global media exposure via PATA’s far-reaching communication channels.
