Nikki Bedi
Presenter, BBC
Nikki Bedi is the face of BBC global cultural content, with a passion for combining her twin loves of luxury travel and the arts.
She currently presents The Arts Hour on the BBC World Service, the flagship arts and culture programme, bringing the hottest talent and issues to the airwaves. She travels extensively across the world including hosting the show across Europe. She also presents BBC Radio 4’s Saturday Live, where she interviews remarkable people. Her Encounter Culture TV series for BBC News sees Nikki immerse herself in the hidden creative world of a particular country or city – in recent episodes she visited Turkey.
Born to an Indian father and English mother, Nikki began her career in Mumbai as both a stage and film actress and worked with some of India’s finest directors. Her second marriage was with Bollywood (and global star) Kabir Bedi. This dual heritage puts her in a unique position to see the world through multiple prisms and this was one reason she began her career in Asia, hosting the huge Star TV talk show Nikki Tonight, which went out to the whole of South Asia – it cemented her love affair with the Asian continent.
She is currently writing a book which focuses heavily on cultural understanding through travel and the arts.
