Luzi Matzig

Luzi Matzig was born in St. Gallen, Switzerland and graduated from the Verkehrsschule St. Gallen, Switzerland with a major in Transportation.
He started his career working for Swissair ground operations in Zurich, Switzerland followed by postings in London, U.K., and then in Berne, Switzerland. He moved to Thailand in 1971, and worked for Diethelm Travel in Bangkok, where he served as General Manager and was later on promoted to Group Managing Director with responsibility for operations in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Vietnam and Yunnan/China.
He started his own company, Asian Trails Ltd., in September 1999 and currently holds the position of Chairman. The Asian Trails Group has 33 offices with 730-plus staff in Thailand, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore and Vietnam.
Aside from managing Asian Trails, Luzi is also involved in various ventures in the cruise and hotel industry, namely Cruise Asia Ltd., operating 3- and 6-night river cruises on the RV River Kwai (10 cabins) in Kanchanaburi, Thailand; the Paradise Ko Yao Resort and Treehouse Villas on Yao Noi island near Phuket, Thailand; the Legend Chiang Rai Boutique Resort and Spa in Chiang Rai, North Thailand; the Paradise Beach Samui Resort on Samui Island, Thailand; the SUNSET HOUSE, a 4-bedroom villa in Luang Prabang, Laos, located on the Mekong River; and the Royal Sands Koh Kong 5-star beach Resort on Koh Rong Island, Cambodia.
Luzi is an avid aviation enthusiast. He has also ventured in establishing VIP Jets Ltd., operating executive air transport and MEDEVAC services by a Cessna Citation Mustang C-510 twin-jet to destinations anywhere in Asia.
Luzi is currently serving as Secretary/Treasurer of PATA, and Honorary Advisor of PATA Thailand Chapter.
He was Board member of the Swiss-Thai Chamber of Commerce. He served as President of Swiss-Thai Chamber of Commerce for 2.5 years.
