Gündoğan Bay
Nestled on the northern shore of the Bodrum peninsula, Gündoğan, meaning sunrise in English, offers tranquility and local charm. This picturesque town, nicknamed as Farilya, has one of the widest beaches on the north shore with crystal waves ideal for swimming and water sports. Gündoğan is also well known for its beautiful flowers which flourish practically all year around, adding vibrant colours to the landscape.
The area carries rich historical significance beyond its ancient name. It is located near the ancient city of Madnasa and is famous in Bodrum for its distinctive old rock formations and historical cemeteries carved into the cliffs. Unlike its busier neighbours, Gündoğan maintains a more relaxed atmosphere while still providing exceptional 5-star restaurants, resorts and beach clubs with spectacular views. The bay is dotted with holiday villas perched on surrounding hills.
Just 47km from Milas-Bodrum Airport, this active fishing town serves as an excellent base for exploring nearby Yalıkavak and Göltürkbükü, both only 15 minutes away. May to August are the driest months with temperatures ranging between 25-35 degrees Celsius, with July being the sunniest. Most activities and restaurants operate from June to October, with water activities typically running from June until September.
Visitors can enjoy magnificent sunsets while sampling delicious local cuisine including meze, dishes made with Aegean herbs, and fresh seafood. Local specialities worth trying include stuffed courgette flowers, Köpoğlu mezesi, fish soup, and bergamot jam. For authentic local dairy products and cheeses, the Metin Çıngıloğlu shop in Gündoğan comes highly recommended. The town's seaside promenade lined with taverns and cafés offers authentic Turkish hospitality away from the crowds.
