IGLTA: 2022 LGBTQ+ Tourism Master’s Degree Scholarship - University of Barcelona

Overview

The IGLTA Foundation LGBTQ+ Tourism Scholarship is a new offering to support the next generation of LGBTQ+ tourism professionals. Two scholarships will be awarded to participate in the master’s degree program in LGBTQ+ tourism at CETT, Barcelona School of Tourism, Hospitality and Gastronomy at the University of Barcelona. The program will provide the personal and professional knowledge to analyze the challenges in the tourism sector related to the LGBTQ+ community and innovate for future development.

Scholarship recipients will have the opportunity to join a unique international program, offered online in English at no cost, and lead the change of the sector in favor of a new tourism model based on respect and inclusion. This scholarship was created in 2021 with the generous collaboration of Queer Destinations.

Requirement

The scholarship is open to IGLTA members and their staff globally who meet the CETT criteria below.

Objectives

To prepare professionals with a robust formative base in terms of the gender perspective and the LGBTQ+ collective to innovate in the tourism sector and ensure the development and evolution of institutions, organizations, and tourist destinations.

To provide students with the necessary tools and techniques for the analysis and diagnosis of current and future strategic challenges in the tourism sector linked to the LGBTQ+ collective to ensure respect, equality, and sustainability of companies and destinations.

Encourage creativity so that innovative, cross-cutting, and respectful proposals can be generated to transform the tourism sector.

Recommended applicant profiles and admission requirements

Applicants must have a university qualification to be admitted to the master's degree.

Graduates from educational systems outside the European Higher Education Area may also be admitted to the course after verification that their qualification reflects an equivalent level of training to the corresponding official Spanish university qualifications:

  • Diploma in Tourism or qualification of specialist in Tourism Companies and Activities,

  • Bachelor's degree in Tourism,

  • Diploma in Business Sciences, pre-EHEA degrees in Business Management and Administration, Humanities, Geography, Anthropology, History, Sociology, History of Art, any bachelor's degree associated with the social sciences and humanities, especially those derived from the aforementioned diplomas and pre-EHEA degrees adapted to the EHEA.

Admission for applicants not holding a degree qualification:

  • Students who are not university graduates may be admitted to these courses. These students will be eligible for a university extension course certificate. Information regarding the entry requirements, in this case, can be obtained from the course coordinators.
