Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People's Republic of China: A Successful Webinar on Egypt-China Tourism Promotion

China, April 7th, 2023 - On March 16, the Egypt-China Tourism Promotion Webinar was held successfully. Hosted by Bureau of International Exchange and Cooperation, Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism and China Association Of Travel Services, and co-organized by China Cultural Center in Cairo, this hybrid event was attended and addressed by Ms. Ghada Shalaby, Vice Minister for the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, Mr. Amr El-Kady, Chairman of Egyptian Tourism Authority, Mr. Peng Yubin, Deputy Director-general, Bureau of International Exchanges and Cooperation of Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and Mr. Yang Ronghao, Cultural Minister-Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Egypt and Director of the China Cultural Center in Cairo.

In her speech, Ms. Ghada Shalaby said that Egypt and China, as important birthplaces of human civilization, have enjoyed very active and fruitful exchanges and cooperation in the field of tourism in recent years. Lauding China’s relaunch of outbound group travel to Egypt as a positive signal, she expressed hope that businesses from the two countries could strengthen their ties to create new highlights for tourism cooperation.

Mr. Amr El-Kady emphasized the great importance Egypt attaches to tourism cooperation and cultural exchanges with China. Having got off to a good start In 2023, Mr. Amr El-Kady pointed out that his country stands ready to break new ground in this partnership by using this webinar as an opportunity to drive continued improvement of travel services in Chinese, active participation in international exhibitions held by China, and more meaningful engagement between industry players.

Mr. Peng Yubin highlighted the rise of China-Egypt cooperation as an important engine of regional economic recovery as COVID-19 recedes, and pointed to new opportunities for cooperation in tourism. It is his hope that the webinar can help bring together the business communities to launch high-quality joint initiatives and to boost the recovery of the world economy from the pandemic.

Mr. Yang Ronghao said that the China Cultural Center in Cairo and the Cultural Office of the Chinese Embassy in Egypt would stay committed to creating an enabling environment for industry-led joint efforts on tourism, to deliver better travel and cultural experience for the citizens of two countries.

There were also discussions among leading businesses from the sector in China and Egypt on “Post-COVID Supply Chain Rebuilding and New Marketing Approaches” and “Innovation of Tourist Routes and Pre-sale of Tourism Products to Drive Rapid Post-COVID Bilateral Inbound Travel Recovery”. All together, more than 90 representatives from Chinese and Egyptian government agencies and the business community attended this hybrid event.

The webinar is an important part of the online training program for Asian-African travel operators, the courses for which were launched in English and Arabic on the PATA website on the same day. It will be followed by more promotion events for other Asian and African countries in the near future.
