By sharing insights and examples of businesses, destinations, and organisations that are actively pursuing sustainable tourism development and growth, the speaker will set the tone for the event. Recalculating the Measurements of Success
Since the reopening of borders around the world, the industry’s recovery is being measured by the number of international arrivals, benchmarked against pre-COVID 19 figures. However, while 2019 was a banner year for tourism, the industry was beginning to face a range of issues from overtourism to environmental protection. Now as we see signs of recovery from the pandemic, are we just going back to business? Are we taking the necessary steps to avoid the mistakes of the past? How are destinations and organisations striving for more visitors but still meeting their sustainability goals? How should we be measuring success? This session will focus on these questions and on what strategies destination managers can take to develop, manage and promote sustainable, thriving and profitable destinations.
