Cultural Practice: Hand-Crafted Traditional Skirts
Traditional Palauan skirts are called “Cheriut” (pronounced ‘eriut), and making them is an ancient laborious but beloved practice. The art of crafting traditional skirts still exists today, however, only a handful of women still possess this knowledge and skill. It is made out of “Chermall”, hibiscus bark, a versatile and high quality natural material found in Palau. Crafting this traditional skirt involves a lengthy and intricate process. Each skirt is tailor made to size and can cost around $800.00.
Ulong Island
As the Rock Island’s greatest archeological treasure, Ulong Island tells of a human history spanning over 4,000 years. Palau’s Rock Island people had firmly established a presence on Ulong Island, as remnants of their defensive walls and terraced village are still found below the rich tropical forest canopy. Scattered clay pot shards and shell artifacts portray the idyllic existence of these early Micronesians.

It has been beautifully shaped through weathering and is one of the attractions that many people around the world come to see as they make their way through the Rock Island Southern Lagoon. Palau is the first nation on earth to change its immigration laws for the cause of environmental protection. Upon entry, visitors need to sign a passport pledge to act in an ecologically and culturally responsible way on the island, for the sake of Palau's children and future generations of Palauans. Children from all over Palau helped draft the pledge. And as we reach out to Palauan businesses, we're continuing to work with the next generation of Palauans to shape and develop the pledge. By signing the pledge, visitors vow to tread lightly, act kindly and explore mindfully, leaving only footprints that will wash away. Other countries have adopted this concept, like Hawaii for example and their release of the Keiki Pledge in 2023.
Since January 1st, 2020 through the Responsible Tourism Education Act businesses are required to educate visitors on the environmental protection policies of the Republic of Palau, encouraging businesses to provide environmentally responsible options to their customers. Through this act Palau became the first country to ban sunscreen that is known or suspected to be reef-toxic. In addition, licensed tour operators are to provide customers with reusable water containers and bento boxes. -

For over 30 years, Semenggoh’s staff trained young orangutans, who had been orphaned or rescued from captivity, how to survive in the wild. The success of this programme has left the surrounding area with a thriving population of healthy orangutans, who are now breeding in the wild, so the rehabilitation programme has been transferred to Matang Wildlife Centre (see below). Semenggoh is now used as an orangutan study centre, but is still a lifelong home for its successful graduates, semi-wild orangutans and their offspring. They spend most of their time roaming the forest but frequently come back to the Centre for a free meal and can be viewed at feeding times.

Antalya is a city where the sea, sun, history and nature commune in harmony.
Ancient cities, the sea, sun, beach, forest ... all are parts of this integrity. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk describes Antalya with the phrase "Undoubtedly, Antalya is the most beautiful place in the world".
Antalya is one of the most visited cities in the world and of course there are dozens of reasons for this. Those who love the sea, sand and sun and those who want to get lost in nature can find dozens of options in Antalya with the 640-kilometer coastline stretching from west to east on the Mediterranean coast, the Toros Mountains surrounding the city parallel to the coast.
In the far west of the city, on the Teke Peninsula there is an Ancient City called Patara one of the most important cities of the Ancient Lycian Civilization. As you move east, you can find nature in the bays of Demre and the traces of ancient civilizations at every corner. Kaş is one of the few diving centers in the world. Kemer is home to many luxury resort hotels and the magnificent Tahtalı Mountain (Tahtalı Dağı). Kaleiçi, which forms the center of the city of Antalya, brings together the ancient city of Attaelia, one of the most important medieval ports in the Eastern Mediterranean, the traces of the Seljuks and the natural wonder cliffs. -
The Land of Fairytales : A moonscape region carved by the nature and men, Cappadocia is most famous for its unique geological features and layers of history.
Cappadocia is the name of the region created by the erosion of the soft layers formed by the lava and ashes sprayed by the volcanic mountains of Erciyes, Hasandağ and Güllüdağ, and shaped by rain, wind, and ice for millions of years.
As the landscape was eroded, basalt stones remained and formed conical structures with some reaching as high as 45 m were created over time by erosion of the relatively soft volcanic ash around them. Past cultures have dug into them to create dwellings, castles, and even entire underground cities, used as hiding places by early inhabitants.
