Fency Sivadasan
Senior Manager-Research, Sarawak Tourism Board
Fency Sivadasan working as a Senior Manager of Research at Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) under the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Performing Arts, Sarawak State, Malaysia. Prior to this, she worked as a Senior Lecturer in International Tourism and Hospitality Management at SEGi College, Sarawak state. She started her working career in Malaysia in 2012 as a Lecturer in Tourism Management in INTI International University, Sarawak. As a Senior Manager in Research, Fency provides market intelligence and strategic directions of STB’s key focus markets and formulates the forecast model for Sarawak visitor arrivals. Her main focused areas of research include destination marketing, strategic planning, and directions for tourism product enhancement. She is serving as the working committee team member of the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy Sarawak 2020-2030 and Sarawak Tourism Master Plan 2020-2035. She is assisting the setting up of Sarawak Tourism Satellite Account from 2018 onwards. She is also a committee member of the Sarawak Research Society (SRS) and helps the society with its research and development initiatives. She is an editorial review board member of Journal of Responsible Tourism Management (JRTM), the first responsible tourism journal in Sarawak. Fency became one of the keynote speakers at the World Cultural Tourism Conference 2018, Thailand and 13th Asia-Pacific Orchid Tourism Conference 2019, Kuching, Malaysia. She has presented and published research papers in national and International journals. Fency holds a Ph.D. in Tourism Management, M.Phil. specialized in eco-tourism and sustainable development and Masters (M.A) in Social Science. Her areas of specialization include tourism Management, tourism impact analysis, tourism sustainability, responsible tourism and community-based tourism. During her tenure as a Senior Lecturer, she supervised numerous tourism research projects and she worked as a research director (ICCA Data research) and Conference Convener at UCSI Communications Sarawak, Malaysia. In addition, she served as a Project Officer in USA collaborative projects co-organized by Louisiana State University, USA, and Loyola College of Social Sciences, Kerala, India.
