PATA Thailand Bangkok University Student Chapter: Students join as a volunteer in PATA Travel Mart 2024
Bangkok, Thailand, 26 - 29 August 2024 - PATA Thailand Bangkok University Student Chapter participated as volunteer students at the PATA Travel Mart 2024 held from August 26-29. The event, hosted in Bangkok, served as a key platform for networking and learning within the travel and tourism industry.
The PATA Travel Mart 2024 was a significant gathering of professionals in the travel, tourism, and hospitality industries. As volunteer students from the PATA Thailand Bangkok University Student Chapter, we assisted in organizing various sessions, guiding delegates, and facilitating networking activities. The event brought together thousands of participants from across the globe, showcasing trends in sustainable tourism, digital transformation, and cultural preservation.
The volunteers had a unique opportunity to engage with industry leaders, gaining hands-on experience in event management and networking. One volunteer commented,
“Through our time at the registration counter, we gained a lot of valuable experiences such as learning how to manage crowded situations effectively, and how to handle challenging situations, and how to keep everything running smoothly. These challenges gave us the chance to develop our interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
One of the highlights was learning from our supervisor. We were lucky to learn a lot from our supervisor, who gave us useful advice and guidance about the travel and tourism industry. Their help made us understand the industry better, and it also inspired us as we think about our future career paths.
We were also lucky to work alongside students from other universities such as Dusit Thani College and SWU University. This opportunity allowed us to build connections with them who share our passion in the same industry.
Overall, the experience was invaluable. We are proud to have been part of such a major event, which helped us gain valuable skills, connect with experts, and contribute to the overall success of the Travel Mart. We look forward to future opportunities for learning and growth with the PATA network.”
During the event, we have seen over 800 attendees, and as volunteers, we played a key role in ensuring the smooth facilitation of various sessions, enhancing the experience for both exhibitors and visitors. The event also aligned with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 8, which promotes decent work and economic growth by creating opportunities for young professionals in the tourism sector. Additionally, it supported SDG 12, focusing on responsible consumption and production, through meaningful discussions on sustainable tourism practices. Participants gained valuable insights into the latest trends in responsible tourism, digital marketing strategies, and methods to revitalize the tourism industry post-pandemic.
Additionally, it was a rewarding experience for the student volunteers, who gained insights into the global tourism industry while contributing to the event’s success. The event not only expanded our professional networks but also provided hands-on experience that will benefit us in our future careers. Volunteering at this event also reinforced the importance of sustainable tourism, which aligns with our chapter’s mission to promote responsible travel.
