Antalya Archaeology Museum

Housing one of the most significant collections of antiquities in the world, the Antalya Museum is especially renowned as one of the most important sculpture museums worldwide. Spanning 2.6 million years of history, from the Lower Paleolithic Age to the Byzantine Period, it is home to some of the finest examples of Roman sculpture, as well as the remarkable Roman Decapitation remains from Perge and unique discoveries from the museum’s rescue excavations.

The museum’s origins trace back to 1919, when Süleyman Fikri Erten, a dedicated teacher, took decisive action to safeguard priceless artefacts from being removed during the Italian occupation. Thanks to his vision and determination, what began as a modest collection has grown into a world-class 30,000-square-metre institution, officially established in 1972.

Today, the museum showcases an extraordinary array of artifacts, each considered a masterpiece of its kind. Its collection includes prehistoric relics, Classical and Roman pottery, magnificent Perge sculptures, intricately carved sarcophagi, jewelry, coins, mosaics, and unique finds from rescue excavations. Its commitment to preserving history earned it the prestigious Special Prize of the Museum of the Year from the Council of Europe in 1988.

Beyond its archaeological treasures, the museum features a children’s section, a modern art gallery, conference facilities, and immersive multimedia experiences, making it a dynamic cultural hub for visitors of all ages.

The Museum opens daily from 8:30 AM to 7 PM (April-October) and 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM (November-March).
