The Annual Tourism Monitor (ATM) 2020 provides a more detailed view of travel movements during calendar year 2019. It includes a number of additional measures of travel activity and profiles including length of stay, expenditure and other useful metrics. Early indicators of travel flows for calendar year 2020 (year-to-date) are also provided as an early warning mechanism for identifying major shifts and movements in key origin and destination markets.

The strong collective annual performance of foreign arrivals into Asia Pacific destinations saw moderate growth in 2019, which overall, remained positive. Nevertheless, that all changed in 2020 with the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic and the virtual cessation of travel, as moves to contain its spread were initiated worldwide.
