Sione Moala-Mafi

CEO, Ministry of Tourism - Tonga

Mr. Sione Moala-Mafi has been employed in the Ministry of Tourism for 32 years, since August 1990 with responsibilities as Marketing Manager, Product Development Manager, Executive Advisor to the Hon. Minister for Tourism, Education and Training Officer for Tourism and have led Tonga’s delegation to many regional and overseas meetings and sales/promotion and marketing events. Appointed as CEO for the Ministry of Tourism on February 7, 2019 to date. During his role as Deputy Director & Marketing Manager, Tonga was the first country in the Pacific to receive a Tourism PATA Gold Mentioning Award on 15 April, 2003, Bali, Indonesia. The international award was in recognition of the Ministry of Tourism’s Television program “Tonga Tourism News” of which Mr. Moala-Mafi was the presenter.

Mr. Moala-Mafi’s qualifications include a Master of Tourism (Australia) and a Bachelor of Social & Economic Development (Fiji). Current member of South Pacific Tourism Organization Board of Directors, Tonga Tourism Authority Board and the National Emergency Management Office (NEMO) Task Force for COVID-19.
