PATA India Christ University Student Chapter: A Workshop on Global Reservation Network

Bangalore, Karnataka, India, 3 and 4 March 2025 - PATA India Christ University Student Chapter, in collaboration with the Department of Tourism Management at Christ (Deemed to be University), organized a workshop on “Global Reservation Network”,  on March 3rd and 4th at the computer lab, Bannerghatta Road Campus. Mr. Vikas Tembhare was the resource person, He is the Founder of DTORR. He has over 19 years of experience in all aspects of Business Development, Market Intelligence, Consulting, New Market Entry, Meetings, Incentives, Conference and Exhibition Industry (MICE), International Trade Promotion, Client Servicing, Destination Management, and Tourism Education.

Mr. Vikas Tembhare provided valuable insights into the hotel industry and its functioning. The session was highly informative and interactive, allowing students to understand various aspects of the hospitality sector and how global reservations and bookings operate in real-time. Mr. Tembhare introduced the students to the fundamentals of the hotel industry, explaining how it functions globally and elaborating on the role of reservations, operations, and guest services in maintaining high hospitality standards. He classified hotels based on factors such as size, location, ownership, and target market and introduced different room categories like Standard Room, Deluxe Room, Suite, Executive Room, and Presidential Suite, along with the various facilities provided by hotels.

The discussion also covered room rates, the star rating system, and the factors influencing hotel pricing. A crucial aspect of the session was the introduction to the Global Distribution System (GDS), explaining how platforms like Amadeus, Sabre, Galileo, and Travelport facilitate hotel and flight bookings. He also explained the reservation process, covering types of bookings, reservation methods, and cancellation policies. A live training session on the Global Reservation Network (GRN) demonstrated how to make and manage reservations, understand hotel databases, and modify bookings.

To enhance engagement, an interactive activity was conducted where students created itineraries based on traveler requirements, helping them understand hotel selection, travel routes, and comprehensive trip planning. The session was highly beneficial, providing practical knowledge and real-world exposure to the students. Mr. Vikas Tembhare’s expertise and engaging approach made the session both educational and interactive, leaving students with a clear understanding of the hospitality and reservation industry.

Founded in 2020, the PATA India Christ University Student Chapter is India’s first PATA Student Chapter. The organization is run by students of the tourism discipline of Christ (Deemed to be University) to benefit more than 250 members spanning undergraduate and postgraduate tourism programmes in the university.
