PATA Malaysia HELP University Student Chapter: River Three Event

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 8th July 2024 - On 6th July, PATA Malaysia HELP University Student Chapter organized a Riverine Cleaning in collaboration with THE HUB (University of Derby) and Alliance of River Three. We conducted the event at Friends of Sungai Klang Taman Melawati River Three, Jalan Melawati 5 from 9:30am until 11:30am. There were altogether 18 people who participated, and all were from HELP University students, PATAMHUSC, THE HUB and Alliance of River Three. The aim of organizing this activity is to explore and get the knowledge of why the sustainability of green culture is important and how the irresponsible littering of non-biodegradable items impacts the natural environment.

We started off with Ms. Syuen explaining to all the participants about the activities and then, we allocated the tasks. Half of the participants followed Ms. Syuen for collecting the leaves in order to make a fertilized soil later and the rest of the participants were allocated for collecting the non-biodegradable trash with 2 big plastic bags. The trashs is plastics, cigarettes, and so on. After we finished our tasks, all the participants were allocated for covering the soil with the collected leaves in order to make fertilized soil. Next, we had a short walk along the riverbank with Ms. Syuen and during the walk, Ms. Syuen explained about why the sustainability of the river is important and how we get water for our daily use from the rivers in Malaysia. After a few minutes’ walk, we met Mr. Ken and he explained about why the sustainability of the natural environment is important for our daily lives and then, encouraged us by singing a song of sustaining our earth. After that, we ended up taking a group photo.
