PATA Malaysia HELP University Student Chapter: Tourism For Peace Forum

 
 

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 15th October 2024 - In celebration of World Tourism Day, the PATA Malaysia HELP University Student Chapter hosted a thought-provoking forum titled “Tourism For Peace” at the Graduate Lounge, ELM Graduate School, HELP University. The event featured His Highness Tunku Dato' Seri (Dr.) Iskandar bin Tunku Abdullah as the keynote speaker, with Ms. Rajesvare, the Club Advisor, moderating the session, and the club’s Chairperson, Izeyan@Izzy with the Vice-Chairperson, Ye Htet Aung@Elvis, as the emcees of the event.

His Highness Tunku Dato’ Seri (Dr) Iskandar Bin Tunku Abdullah is the past Chairman, and the current Executive Board Member of Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA). His Highness is also the Group President of Melewar Group’s tourism-related companies, including Mitra Travel & Tours, Mitra Kembara, Pacific World Travel, APG Malaysia and World Express Malaysia. Internationally, he sits on the Boards of The Travel Partnership Corporation Inc. (USA) and APG Inc. (France).

Tunku Dato' Seri (Dr.) Iskandar highlighted the power of tourism in fostering connections and unity. His Highness emphasized the profound relationship between tourism and peace, underscoring how tourism serves as a bridge between different peoples, fostering empathy and collaboration. His Highness emphasized that Malaysia, with its rich tapestry of cultures and backgrounds, stands as a prime example of how tourism can unify people and foster peaceful coexistence.

His Highness further discussed how tourism nurtures peace through cultural exchange, encouraging a celebration of diversity rather than a fear of differences. His Highness stressed the importance of viewing our shared humanity as a strength and underscored the critical role of collaboration among stakeholders to achieve sustainable development across the region.

The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where participants had the opportunity to engage with His Highness and explore various aspects of tourism and peace. Following the forum, attendees joined a student-led workshop, which provided a practical exploration of “Tourism For Peace”.

The World Tourism Day 2024 forum was a memorable event, leaving attendees inspired and hopeful for a future where tourism continues to bridge divides and promote global harmony.
