PATA Thailand Bangkok University Student Chapter: Empowering Youth Through Awareness - A Social Media Contents on Global Issues

Bangkok, Thailand, 11 October – 6 December 2024 - PATA Thailand Bangkok University Student Chapter was an engaging and educational initiative aimed at raising awareness of global challenges by the weekly contents on social media. This action covered key topics such as climate change, education, inequality, economic growth, and environmental sustainability, aligning with the SDG goals.  Through well-researched content and interactive discussions, we provided students with valuable insights and actionable strategies to contribute to positive change.

The contents began by addressing climate change, with a focus on extreme weather conditions in Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar. We introduced the "ACT" framework—Adapt, Coordinate, and Treat—to encourage youth involvement in climate action, such as reforestation, disaster relief collaboration, and water conservation. "This post made me realize how small changes in my daily habits can help mitigate climate change," shared one participant, highlighting the content’s influence.

We then turned our attention to education and inequality. Our post on SDG 4 (Quality Education) emphasized the role of education in breaking the cycle of poverty, inspiring discussions on accessibility and equity. The motto, "The Ripple Effect of Education: Unlock a Brighter Future for All," resonated with many, encouraging advocacy for inclusive education. Addressing SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), we introduced "ACE for Equality"—Awareness, Change, and Empowerment—encouraging youth activism in income, education, and social justice. "I never realized how inequality affects so many aspects of life. This post made me want to take action," noted a student.

The contents concluded with discussions on economic innovation and environmental sustainability"WIN: Work, Innovate, Nurture" highlighted the link between decent employment, technological advancements, and fair economic policies. We also introduced the "Protect, Preserve, Prosper" framework to address urgent environmental concerns such as marine pollution and deforestation. As one follower stated, "This initiative opened my eyes to how much our actions impact the planet. We all need to take responsibility."

This activity effectively engaged students, generating meaningful discussions and broadening awareness of global issues. By aligning with SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 13 (Climate Action), we contributed to conversations on sustainability, social justice, and economic equity. The interactive nature of the posts encouraged students to reflect on their role in these global challenges.

Beyond online engagement, the contents inspired concrete actions among students. Many expressed interest in sustainability initiatives, educational advocacy, and community-driven projects. Some participants committed to reducing their environmental footprint, supporting equal education programs, and advocating for fair labor practices. The success of content demonstrated how digital platforms can be powerful tools for education and social change.

By addressing key global issues through social media, this action empowered students to become active participants in building a sustainable and equitable future. Through education, advocacy, and engagement, we reinforced the importance of small, collective actions in driving meaningful change. Moving forward, we aim to expand our reach and explore new ways to inspire youth-led initiatives for social impact.
