PATA Thailand Bangkok University Student Chapter: Got 1st Runner Up Round -1 place in the Alta Vista Competition hosted by PATA Christ University

Bangkok, Thailand, 10 September 2024 - The PATA Thailand Bangkok University Student Chapter participated online in the Alta competition hosted by Christ University on September 9th and 10th, 2024. The event focused on Tourism and Sustainability, where the chapter earned the position of first runner-up, showcasing their expertise and innovation.

The Alta competition, organized by Christ University from India, was a two-day event where teams from various universities demonstrated their skills in tourism and sustainability. The competition consisted of two rounds: Film Analysis and Presentation in Round One and Building a Fictional Country in Round Two.

In Round One, the PATA Thailand Bangkok University Student Chapter analyzed the 2004 film The Terminal, which focuses on the struggles of immigrants, especially those from politically unstable countries. Their in-depth analysis centered on themes of displacement and immigration policies, which they presented online after submitting their slides in advance. Their presentation, delivered at 1:15 PM (Bangkok time) via Google Meet, showcased a profound understanding of the challenges presented in the film.

In Round Two, participants were tasked with creating a fictional country. The students had to design a country’s economy, rules, currency, and tourist attractions while ensuring alignment with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The chapter demonstrated creativity and innovation, effectively integrating sustainability principles into their fictional nation’s framework.

Their event successfully incorporated several key Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 1 - No Poverty, SDG 2 -Zero Hunger, SDG 3 - Good Health and Well-being, SDG 8 - Decent Work and Economic Growth, SDG 11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities, SDG 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production, SDG 14 - Life Below Water, and SDG 15 - Life on Land. This alignment highlighted their understanding of global sustainability goals and how these can be integrated into tourism initiatives. Through their participation, students gained valuable insights into the intersection of tourism, sustainability, and policymaking, enriching their knowledge of nation-building and the practical application of SDGs within the tourism sector.

The competition provided an excellent opportunity for students to demonstrate their knowledge in tourism and sustainability. The first runner-up achievement reflects the dedication and skill of the PATA Thailand Bangkok University Student Chapter. Their performance not only highlighted their innovative thinking but also reinforced the importance of integrating SDGs into future tourism initiatives.
